Meanwhile, Alicia must decide whether her future is with Peter or with Jason, and she channels the ghost of Will Gardner to help make a decision. Not sure if the writers were intending to be cryptic or clever. The actors deserve their accolades. The fault lies entirely at the feet of the writers.

Do not read on unless you have. The Good Wife was always going to end mid-thought. The series, which aired its finale in the US on 8 May, had a knack of cutting episodes right at the point where viewers were about to see the drastic transformation they were hoping for, or the resolution they were longing for. It certainly always ended its seasons like that, leaving us wondering what Alicia Florrick Julianna Margulies would do next. Naturally, the entire show ended that way as well.

Why ‘The Good Wife’ Didn’t Earn That Ending

Your honor, the show asserted facts not in evidence. Trying to pull off that slap and trying to make it fit with the contortions that preceded it was like watching a slick TV lawyer trying to get something dubious past a judge on a technicality by employing some fast talking and some very hinky arguments. But only when it is of a piece with what came before. Well, no. The finale had too little of all those things, and it had a lot of other problems as well. It needed to lead up to that moment for at least a few seasons.

It premiered on October 4, , on CBS [1] and consisted of 22 episodes. A promotional advertisement for the series that aired during Super Bowl 50 announced that the seventh season would be its last. The series focuses on Alicia Florrick Margulies , whose husband Peter Noth , the former Cook County, Illinois State's Attorney , has been jailed following a notorious political corruption and sex scandal. After having spent the previous thirteen years as a stay-at-home mother, Alicia returns to the workforce as a litigator to provide for her two children. The seventh season of The Good Wife received positive reviews.
